A wide variety of source code upon which to draw exists as part of algorithm development environments and source code repositories. When a user wants to code an algorithm in a compiled language for speed, then function libraries become extremely useful.

Each of the four algorithm environments discussed provides much of the functionality needed for image processing and some of the functionality for video processing.
